Closing the Health Equity Gap

Despite legal civil rights protections, individuals with disabilities continue encountering barriers to full and equal access to health care services and facilities. So in honor of National Public Health Week (April 4-10), we are proud to debut the Ensuring Health Care Access for People with Disabilities guide.

Written specifically for health care professionals, this document identifies common barriers people with disabilities encounter when trying access services and offers valuable solutions to critical problems. Please join our efforts and share this document with those in your healthcare community.

Also, we’d love to hear from you! Please let us know if you find the guide useful by completing a short survey: Accessing Health Care Feedback

If you wish to know about additional resources, training, or information, please contact us.

You also may visit the National Public Health Week website for more details at http://nphw.org

"We can work together to improve the health of people living with disabilities and other marginalized groups by reducing health disparities in health insurance, increasing physical accessibility to care, increasing availability of appropriate care, building more inclusive public health programs, and promoting healthy living" (American Public Health Association [APHA], 2022).
