Direct’s Statement on Violence and Shootings in Tucson
Direct Advocacy & Resource Center mourns the deaths of Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara and our hearts are with their loved ones. Deeply saddened and incensed about this ruthless and senseless act of violence, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, local business Venture-N, and everyone impacted by their murders.
The Tucson Police Department is investigating the killings as a hate crime and we appreciate elected officials for standing in unity with the LGBTQ+ community to demand a safe, peaceful city for everyone.
Hate is hate and this horrific violence affects everyone. As Martin Luther King wrote in the Letter from Birmingham Jail, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." With our community mourning, now is the time to also support each other. We all deserve to live with dignity and safety in communities that uphold change, equity, and justice.
