All bills we oppose have passed the Senate; those Senate Bills are 1411, 1402, 1710, and 1170. But, there is also some good news, Bills 1017 and 1016 have also passed the Senate, with HB2174 still pending. However, none of the bills have passed both houses and could come back for floor votes before the legislative session ends on June 30. We encourage you to take action and contact your legislator.

Suggested Bills to OPPOSE

  • Developmental Disabilities; Parents; Guardianship

A parent who is the primary caregiver of a minor child receiving DD services automatically and immediately becomes the guardian on the child's 18th birthday (Assumes individuals with DD are “incapacitated” and prioritizes parents’ convenience over individuals’ civil rights)

  • Child Care; Licensing; Technical Correction

Expands the population served by the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (ASDB) to include children with at least one disability, not just sensory (Changes focus from sensory to all disabilities; segregated school for disabled)

  • State Hospital; Governing Board; Governance

Expands the number of individuals that can be involuntarily committed to the Arizona State Hospital. Expands services to intellectual and developmental disabilities, meaning people with intellectual and developmental disabilities may be more likely to be committed to the state hospital.

  • Ballot Drop Boxes; Requirements; Appropriations

Bans curbside voting unless an individual shows that it is needed as a disability accommodation. It increases the burden on people with disabilities to prove that they have a disability that requires curbside voting.
